Church History

The story of God's faithfulness to our congregation through the years.

1970

The Church of North India is Born

On 29 November 1970, at Nagpur, six Protestant traditions — Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Disciples of Christ, Presbyterian, Congregational and Brethren — came together to form the Church of North India. It was a landmark act of unity in the history of the Church, and it is the Church to which our congregation belongs.

1976

The Diocese of Chandigarh

The Diocese of Chandigarh was formed to shepherd the CNI congregations of North-West India — across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Under the leadership of its Bishops, the diocese has nurtured churches, schools and institutions across the region, including our own congregation in Rajpura.

Our Story

Christ Church, Rajpura

Christ Church has stood in Rajpura as a witness to Christ for the Christian families of the city and the surrounding villages. Through the years the congregation has gathered Sunday after Sunday for worship, Holy Communion, Sunday School and fellowship — celebrating baptisms, marriages and festivals together, and supporting one another through every season of life. The detailed history of our church building and congregation is being lovingly compiled by our elders and will be added here.
